International Travel & Self-Quarantine Reminders

If you are planning to travel outside the U.S. during winter break, there are a few steps you must take in order to align yourself with campus COVID-19 safety protocol upon your return.

First, you must report your travel to the UIC COVID-19 Reporting Decision Tool 24 to 48 hours prior to traveling to the U.S. This is in addition to submitting evidence or your negative COVID-19 test and vaccination record to your airline per CDC guidelines. If you are an international student, you can present this letter at the Port of Entry to confirm that UIC will be offering hybrid studies in the spring, if needed.

Once you have returned to the U.S., you will be required to self-quarantine according to the instructions provided by the UIC Contact Tracing Team through the COVID-19 Reporting Decision Tool. Currently, the period of self-quarantine after international travel is seven days. The period of self-quarantine after international travel is required for all members of the UIC community regardless of vaccination status. If you test positive for COVID-19 or develop symptoms during your quarantine, continue to isolate and contact your medical care provider. You may visit campus after completing your period of self-quarantine and any other steps advised by UIC Contact Tracing.

Lastly, if you need to get a COVID-19 booster, you can find more information for members of the UIC international community here.

Members of the UIC community traveling within the U.S. are subject to different self-quarantine and testing requirements depending on vaccination status. If you are not fully vaccinated, report your domestic travel through the COVID-19 Reporting Decision Tool. For more information, visit today.uic.edu/coronavirus.
