OIS Operations, Aug. 19 to 23

During the week of Aug. 19, the Office of International Services will host welcome events for new UIC international students and scholars. At the same time, Chicago will host the Democratic National Convention (DNC), utilizing the United Center near UIC's campus.

The Office of International Services will continue operations during the convention with a mix of in-person and virtual services in order to meet the needs of our newest members of the UIC international community while complying with the University's service recommendations related to the DNC.

Please note the following service adjustments:

  • Friday, Aug. 16 - Our physical in SSB will close at 4:00 p.m. for Global Music Night.
  • Monday, Aug. 19 through Thursday, Aug. 22 - Our physical office in SSB will open on a reduced schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and for document pick up and drop off only (no in-person advising). Visitors must enter SSB from the entrance at Harrison & Racine and may need to swipe a valid UIC ID to enter the building. Virtual services will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and advising will be available by appointment. Please visit Contact OIS for details on how to schedule an advising appointment.
  • Friday, Aug. 23 - Our physical office in SSB will open for regular hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., for document pick up and drop off only (no advising). All OIS advisors will be attending the New International Student Summit.

As a reminder:

  • myOIS Immigration Portal - Most immigration requests should be submitted online through the myOIS immigration portal. This includes the mandatory Immigration Check-In with OIS for new members of the UIC international community.
  • Fall 2024 International Student Orientation - New international student orientation programming is planned as mix of in-person and virtual events. Please refer to the Fall 2024 International Student Orientation webpage for confirmation on which events will be held on-campus and which will be held via Zoom. The New International Student Summit will take place in-person in the Illinois Room of Student Center East on Friday, Aug. 23. All international students new to UIC for the fall 2024 semester are strongly encouraged to attend this special UIC tradition!
