USCIS to Increase Certain Filing Fees on April 1, 2024

On Jan. 30, 2024, U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) published a final rule that will increase certain filing fees effective April 1, 2024. As detailed in the final rule and associated Frequently Asked Questions, the final rule will increase certain filing fees that will impact not only UIC departments, but also UIC international students, alumni, and international employees.

For UIC departments, certain filing fees of Form I-129 Petition for a Nonimmigrant Worker and Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Workers will be increasing, which will result in the OIS fee that is charged to UIC departments to increase as well.

For UIC international students, alumni, and international employees, those eligible to file the following forms may also be subject to adjusted filing fees effective April 1, 2024:

• Form I-539, Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status for certain classifications
• Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization
• Form I-485, Application to Adjust Status
• Form I-131, Application for Travel Document
• Other USCIS forms.

Please note that the publication of this final rule does not change the previous USCIS decision announced on Dec. 27, 2023, that will increase certain Form I-907 Premium Processing filing fees effective February 26, 2024. Please read the previous OIS announcement detailing the increased Form I-907 Premium Processing filing fees.
