J-1 EV English Language Proficiency
All Exchange Visitors are required to have sufficient proficiency in the English language, as determined by an objective measurement of English language proficiency, to successfully participate in their program and to function on a day-to-day basis in the U.S. Please see the below list of accepted documentation at UIC for Exchange Visitors to demonstrate English language proficiency for DS-2019 issuance.

- Results from a recognized English language test – Refer to UIC Graduate Admissions English Language Proficiency Requirements for acceptable score minimums.
- Signed documentation from an academic institution or English language school – Must be postsecondary, accredited institution and primary method of instruction in English. Subject to OIS review.
- Documented in-person, video, or phone interview conducted by the sponsoring department
